Frequently Asked Questions About the DBT Intensive

  • What types of services do you offer for parents?

We offer a range of programs to fit different needs, including a seasonal intensive program, an ongoing DBT Parenting Group, and private, one-on-one DBT Parenting Coaching.

  • Do I need to be an expert in DBT to participate?

Not at all. All of our parent and caregiver programs are designed for individuals with any level of experience, including those brand new to DBT. We start with the fundamentals and teach the skills in a clear, supportive way.

  • Does my teen need to be a client at Metro NY DBT for me to join?

No. Our parent and caregiver services are standalone programs open to any parent who feels they would benefit. The skills you learn can effectively support your teen regardless of where they receive therapy, are in one of our programs, or if they are in therapy at all.

  • What is the main goal of these parent programs?

The primary goal is to empower you with practical DBT skills to reduce family conflict, improve communication, validate your child's experience effectively, and manage your own stress. By building your skills, you create a more stable and supportive home environment, which is one of the most powerful ways to help your teen.

  • Are virtual services available for parents and caregivers?

Yes, many of our services for parents and caregivers, including our groups and individual coaching, are available virtually for your convenience and accessibility.
