Completing a comprehensive Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Stage 1 program is a monumental achievement. The journey doesn't end there—transition into a new phase of skillful living with our DBT Graduate Group. Our virtual DBT Graduate Group offers a warm, supportive space where you can continue to practice mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness in everyday life.

This group helps you practice your skills, remain motivated, and connect with a community of peers who understand.

What Is the DBT Graduate Group?

The Graduate Group is a weekly, 75-minute virtual support group for individuals who have completed at least one cycle of  comprehensive DBT. Unlike the learning-heavy beginner groups, our graduate groups focus shifts from learning skills to applying skills in the context of your daily life, helping you maintain your progress.

What to Expect in the Graduate Group Sessions

We currently have three different graduate group offerings, all held virtually. While less structured, each session follows a predictable and supportive format:

Collaborative Consultation: The group steps into the role of a consultant team for one another. Together, you will offer validation, problem-solving, and fresh perspectives, much like a professional DBT consultation team meeting.

Frequently Asked Questions About the DBT Graduate Group

  • How is the Graduate Group different from a regular DBT skills group?

The main difference is the focus. A DBT skills group is a structured class designed to teach you the core skills. The Graduate Group is a less formal support group focused on applying, reinforcing, and deepening the skills you've already learned in real-world situations.

  • What is the main goal of the group sessions?

The primary goal is to provide ongoing peer and clinical support to help you maintain your treatment gains. Sessions focus on collaborative problem solving for current life challenges, advanced skills application, and sharing experiences with a supportive community.

  • Is this group considered therapy?

The Graduate Group is a form of  Stage II treatment aftercare or support, not a replacement for comprehensive therapy. It is facilitated by a DBT clinician and uses a therapeutic framework, but it is designed for individuals who are no longer in acute crisis and have already completed a full course of DBT.

  • What makes this group unique compared to other DBT support options?

Our group is unique because it is dedicated aftercare for DBT graduates, not a beginners' class. We move beyond learning skills to focus entirely on applying them to your real life. The key difference is our collaborative peer consultation format, where members act as a support team for one another, helping each other to maintain and deepen their progress in a community that understands.
