Providing Clarity and a Path Forward for Your Family

As a parent or caregiver, it can be confusing and distressing when your child is struggling and you don't know why. A comprehensive psychological assessment is an informative step towards understanding your child or adolescent’s unique challenges and strengths. At Metro NY DBT Center, we provide comprehensive psychological assessments for children and teens designed to provide a clear diagnosis and create a roadmap for effective, evidence-based support.

Frequently Asked Questions About Assessments

  • I would like to continue with my current therapist outside of Metro. Can I still participate in the outpatient DBT program?

We do ask clients to pause with outside providers while participating in comprehensive DBT treatment at Metro. We work closely on a team, which we have found to lead to increased progress towards treatment goals. In some cases, it is possible to participate in only our DBT Skill Group while continuing individual treatment with your outside therapist. Please reach out to us for a free consultation call to inquire if you may be a fit for group-only treatment at Metro.

  • What age group do you assess?

We provide comprehensive psychological assessments for children and adolescents aged 8-18. Please contact us to discuss your child’s specific age and needs. We also offer assessment for adults ages 18 and older.

  • How long does the assessment process take?

The timeline can vary depending on the complexity of the questions being asked.  We encourage clients to complete an intake form.  An assessment  typically unfolds over several days. Our findings and recommendations can be given within three weeks  to allow for thorough evaluation, scoring, and report writing.

  • Is the assessment covered by insurance?

Metro NY DBT Center is an out-of-network provider. While we do not bill insurance directly, we provide you with detailed invoices that you can submit to your insurance company for potential out-of-network reimbursement. We recommend you contact your provider to understand your benefits.
